Warren Backhouse was selected to represent Australia at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, USA in September 2010.

The World Equestrian Games are comprised of the world championships for eight equestrian sports.  The Games are held every four years, two years prior to the Olympic Games, and are governed by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI).  This is the first year that they are being held in the USA.  Reining was added to the FEI as a discipline in 2000 and was featured for the first time in 2002 at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain.

Warren, (along with Martin Larcombe and Robyn and Warwick Schiller) qualified to ride on the Australian team through his top level performances in a number of events.  Warren is Australia’s top reining money earner and one of the nation’s best trainers.

Representing Australia was one of the greatest experiences Warren had ever had and it was a wonderful opportunity for Warren and the other competitors to put Australia’s best up there with the best from around the world.  AND the team did Australia proud.  All riders performed amazingly well on horses they did not know -- whilst our team did not place with the medal winners they certainly were a team that was noticed and the Australians will be a team that others will be looking out for at the next WEG.

Warren and Martin Larcombe also qualified for the individual finals and Warren put in an outstanding performance to finish 13th with Martin coming in at 19th.  A fantastic effort by both riders!

Warren felt the team camaraderie, great opportunities and the wonderful support of Australians both at WEG and back at home were phenomenal and he wants to thank everyone for their efforts.

Five Star Reining wants to congratulate Warren and the other team members.  You did us proud!
