Warren Backhouse has been selected to represent Australia at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, USA in September 2010.
The World Equestrian Games are comprised of the world championships for eight equestrian sports. The Games are held every four years, two years prior to the Olympic Games, and are governed by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI). This is the first year that they are being held in the USA. Reining was added to the FEI as a discipline in 2000 and was featured for the first time in 2002 at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain.
Warren, (along with Martin Larcombe and Robyn and Warwick Schiller) qualified to ride on the Australian team through his top level performances in a number of events. Warren is Australia’s top reining money earner and one of the nation’s best trainers. Representing Australia will be a great opportunity for Warren and the other competitors and a chance to put Australia’s best up there with the best from around the world.
Riders pay their own way to the games (including the cost of hiring horses). Backhouse training stables and Five Star Reining have a number of fundraising activities underway to help Warren get to Kentucky. You can support Warren by making a donation to the Five Star Reining account
