Frequently Asked Questions

Expect to learn a lot!  Obviously how much you get out of the clinic will depend on how open you are to listening and learning but you will be hard-pressed to go away from one of these clinics disappointed.

Expect to meet like-minded people and have fun.  The clinics are designed to be fun and to encourage reiners (whether they be beginners or experienced) to get together in a friendly and relaxed environment.

Expect approachable people.  Warren and Carol Backhouse are very approachable and take time to answer any questions whether they are about reining or horse care.  Glenn and the organizing team are friendly and do their best to make everyone feel comfortable.

When can I arrive for the clinic?

You need to bring all your personal items plus all food, saddlery and other items for your horse.  It is recommended you bring the following items:

· All horse food and horse needs

· A pooh rake if you have one

· Camping and sleeping equipment for yourself

· A water bottle

· Sunscreen and a hat

· All your personal clothes, toiletries and a towel.

· A torch or flashlight

· Any alcoholic beverages you may want

What do I need to bring?

Horses and horse feed can be transported over state borders however horses travelling out of Queensland must pass through the tick gate and be sprayed on exit from Queensland.  More information can be found at the Qld Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries web site http://www2.dpi.qld.gov.au/health/3617.html

Are there any issues with bringing horses or feed over state borders?

You can bring more than one horse but it is not recommended.  The five day program works because each day builds on what is learnt the day before.  You may not get an opportunity to ride both horses each day and therefore would find it difficult to get the most out of both animals.  If you feel you would really like to bring more than one horse it is best to discuss this with Warren prior to booking the clinic.  Riders who are new to reining are discouraged from bringing more than one horse.

Can I bring more than one horse?

There are no vets on-site at the clinics however, a vet is available for emergencies if needed.

Farriers are generally not available, so it is best to ensure that your horse is recently shod prior to attending the clinic.  Should your horse lose a shoe, a farrier can be contacted but may not be able to attend immediately.

Is there a vet or farrier available?
